Black Hammock, Florida

The Black Hammock Wilderness Area is a 700 acre plot that was a joint purchase by Seminole County, Florida and the St. Johns River Water Management District in effort to preserve habitats. The wilderness here includes a round-trip hike that is approximately 4.5 miles of trails, through habitats such as mixed hardwood swamp, sand, pine scrub, and pine flatwoods. Here, you may find barred owls, white-tailed deer, bobcats and eastern hognose snakes. Black Hammock Wilderness Area also includes a boardwalk and trails for local equestrians, mountain bikers, hikers, photographers, and other outdoor enthusiasts.
