City of Bartow, Florida

Founded in 1851 was Fort Blount, the county seat of Polk County. It was eventually named Bartow after Francis S. Bartow, who was the first brigade commander to die in combat during the American Civil War. "City of Oaks and Azaleas" is their official nickname, but Bartow is also called “The ‘Tow” by some locals.
