Brevard county is located on Florida’s Space Coast, east/central Florida, bordering the Atlantic Ocean. With a beautiful stretch of white sandy beaches along numerous barrier islands, surfing, snorkeling, swimming, turtle watching, boating and fishing are popular activities. Parks and golf courses are plentiful and local attractions include the Kennedy Space Center, Brevard Zoo, and the Brevard Museum of Art and Science. Disney World and other central Florida attractions are within a 1 hour drive.
Brevard County was established in 1844 from a portion of Mosquito County and was originally named St. Lucie. In 1855 the name was changed in honor of Theodore Washington Brevard (1804-77) of North Carolina. Brevard came to Florida in 1847 and became the state comptroller.
