Pinellas County

Pinellas County is located in Central West Florida bordering the Gulf of Mexico, Tampa Bay, and Pasco and Hillsborough Counties. 

Pinellas County was established in 1911 from a portion of Hillsborough County. The name is derived from Spanish "Punto Pinal", meaning "point of pines."

Official Listings

Pinellas County Schools was officially formed in Florida in 1912. The district is also famously known for establishing the first adult education program in Florida. This was a result of the influx of returning veterans from WWII who were seeking to complete their education. Today, Pinellas County School District is the seventh-largest district in the state of Florida and the 26th-largest district in the nation containing over 100,000 students.

Tropicana Field is home to the Tampa Bay Rays MLB team. Located in St. Petersburg, Florida, the stadium also hosts college football. This domed stadium is the only non-retractable Major League Baseball stadium and is the smallest by seating capacity. 

The Braille and Talking Book Library is a library dedicated to providing reading materials to blind and visually impaired residents. Its headquarters is located in Daytona and it has nine subregional locations in Coca, Ft. Myers, Ft. Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Clearwater, Miami, Orlando, Pensacola, and Lake Worth to serve residents throughout the state.

The 8th Annual Clearwater Beach Fest features tastings from over 30 participating restaurants, wine & craft beer, live entertainment and more along the beautiful beach of Clearwater. Followed by the 2 week long culinary celebration where restaurants showcase their signature cuisine and specialties. 

Home of Winter and Hope, the inspirational Dolphins of Dolphin Tales 1 & 2. This well-known aquarium focuses on rescue, rehab and release. "Clearwater Marine Aquarium is fundamentally a hospital for sick and injured marine life.  However, what we do is so much more.  We inspire the human spirit, through the animals and their stories of survival, which touch all of us. " 

The Clearwater Public Library System has 5 branches all located in Clearwater and Clearwater Beach. The main branch is located on Osceola Avenue. It is part of the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative.

The Dunedin Public Library has two branches, the Dunedin Main Library and the Friends Branch Library, both located in Dunedin. It is part of the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative.

The East Lake Community Library is a library located in Palm Harbor. It is part of the Pinellas County Library Cooperative.

Eckerd College is a small liberal arts college in St. Petersburg. It has a beautiful waterfront campus on the Gulf Peninsula in Tampa Bay. It is a short drive away from some of the state's most beautiful beaches.

The Eight O'Clock Theatre is a theatre in Largo, Florida. It is part of the Suncoast Performing Arts Foundation, which supports the arts in Largo and the sun coast.

The oldest and largest antiquarian book fair in the Southeastern United States, third largest in the nation. 100+ Booksellers from all over the country bring volumes of every description from very rare to reading copies on every conceivable subject.

Francis Wilson Playhouse is a beautiful old theater that first opened in 1935. Each year it has a season of eight shows and musicals that each run for a few weeks.
