Manatee County

Established in 1855 from portions of Hillsborough and Mosquito Counties, Manatee County was named after the gentle sea cow, "Manatee", which was seen frequently in the area's waterways.

Manatee County is located in Central-west Florida bordering the Gulf of Mexico and Hillsborough, Hardee, DeSoto and Sarasota Counties. Manatee County features 150 miles of pristine shoreline boasting some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

The South Fork State Park is a rare natural wonder of Florida. The park is very underdeveloped making it ideal for Wildlife viewing, birding, or exploring its hiking trails. The park is home to many rare plant life including its rosemary scrub habitat which is only found in Florida; as well as many rare plants and animals which are not commonly observed. 

Visitors can request a gate code to visit the Wingate Creek State Park and explore its rare and untouched natural habitats. Currently hiking and biking in the park is limited and it is primarily used for nature research, birding, or simply exploring nature. 

Manatee County Public School District is located near 27 miles of pristine beaches next to the Gulf of Mexico. The school district consists of 54 public schools and currently serves over 42,000 students.

Florida Rail Road Museum offers one of the most unique museum experiences in the world. Located in Parrish, a small town in Manatee County in the Central West region of Florida, This museum preserves the history of the railroad with trainrides and even special events that enact stories in history such as a train robbery or a trip to the North Pole. 

Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine is a graduate school of medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy. It's main campus is located in Pennsylvania with a secondary location in Bradenton, Florida.

The Manatee County Public Library System has 6 branches, 3 in Bradenton, and 1 each in Ellenton, Palmetto, and Holmes Beach. This system also includes the Talking Books for the Blind and Physically Handicapper library in Daytona Beach.

The Manatee Performing Arts Center is a theater in Bradenton that opened in 1953. It provides the people of Manatee county with dance, music, and theater performances throughout the year.

Port Manatee is located on the Gulf Coast of Florida, South Tampa Bay, the closest U.S. deepwater port to the Panama Canal. One of Florida's largest and fastest growing seaports, Port Manatee offers services for a wide range of cargo.  

Christian Home School organization serving home school families located primarily in Sarasota and Manatee Counties in Southwest Florida. Currently, Learning and Families (LAF) provides: Co-op classes for grades K – 12, small groups for all school aged children, an annual curriculum fair, parent meetings, a high school prom, a yearbook, and a Senior Graduation ceremony, field trip opportunities and so much more.  Joining LAF also provides discounts when joining FPEA and HSLDA.
